How to choose a moisturizer for men
Florent Massis · August 24, 2023 · English edition updated October 23, 2026

Skin aging, facial hair, shaving and exposure to the elements can all influence how your face feels. Choosing a moisturizer starts with your skin’s needs and the way the complete formula feels in daily use.
Explore the points that help you choose a comfortable facial moisturizer with NERO.
Why use a facial moisturizer?
Help limit dryness
A moisturizer helps maintain hydration and soften the skin. Different formulas combine ingredients that attract water, soften the surface or help limit water loss. The right texture is the one that leaves your skin comfortable without an unwanted finish.
Support everyday comfort
Cold weather and shaving can make skin feel less comfortable. A suitable moisturizer can support daily care, but it does not remove every external stressor. A face cream without an SPF claim does not replace sunscreen.
Care for the appearance of aging skin
Hydration can make dry skin look smoother. Claims about reducing wrinkles, improving firmness or changing pigmentation depend on evidence for the finished product. An ingredient’s reputation alone does not establish those results.
Men’s and women’s moisturizers: what matters?
Men’s skin can differ in thickness, sebum production and shaving exposure, but these are general tendencies. Your own skin, sensitivities and preferences matter more than the gender on the label. A light texture may suit one person, while another prefers a richer cream.
If you shave, review how your skin feels afterwards. A suitable aftershave balm may be an option; using both a balm and a cream is not automatically necessary.
Understanding the formula
1. Water and oils
Many creams combine an aqueous phase with an oily phase, held together by emulsifiers. Water-based ingredients, plant oils, butters and other components each contribute to the texture and feel. A formula containing oils can still be designed to leave a non-greasy finish.
2. Vitamins and supporting ingredients
Ingredients such as tocopherol or panthenol can play different roles in a formula. Their presence does not, by itself, demonstrate a visible effect. Concentration, stability and the complete formula all matter.
3. Collagen
Topical collagen is used for surface properties such as film formation and moisturizing. It should not be assumed to replace collagen deeper in the skin or stimulate its production simply because it appears on an ingredient list.

Which texture suits your skin?
Normal skin
If your skin is generally comfortable, look for a texture that maintains that comfort without feeling too heavy.
Dry skin
A richer cream may be helpful when skin feels dry or tight. Dryness and dehydration are not interchangeable diagnoses. Persistent itching or discomfort deserves appropriate advice.
Oily skin
Choose a comfortable, lighter texture if that suits you. A greasy appearance does not mean that moisturizing must be avoided. Do not assume a formula regulates sebum unless that effect has been demonstrated.
Combination skin
If the forehead, nose or chin feel oilier than the cheeks, adjust the amount and placement of moisturizer. A light texture may be a useful starting point.
The NERO option
NERO Anti-Aging Face Cream is intended for daily care of the face and neck. Its melting texture leaves a silky feel and a non-greasy finish. Black caviar and brown algae extracts accompany shea butter, jojoba oil and grape seed oil.
The formula is fragranced. Check the INCI list, particularly for a known allergy. Its natural origin and reported “Excellent” Yuka rating do not guarantee individual tolerability.
